A RIDE AROUND TOWN AND WHEN YOU NEED A BREEZE UP YOUR DRESS !
Here I am in VERY hot conditions and wearing an old granny dress I found at the local Op shop to help me get about town on this day.. This adventure before dementia was just brilliant.. I learnt so much, met so many people and even was gifted a bit of freshly dug opal by a local 🙏🏼 and I urge you to make a trip out to this very very interesting town..put it in your list if not done already
Lightning Ridge is a small outback town in north-western New South Wales, Australia.
A unique and historic opal mining town, Lightning Ridge is famed for its rare black opal, mining history and colourful locals.
Plenty go missing out there , especially if you stumble on someone else’s mine shaft!! It’s outback law and only some get caught
May 20th 1990: A murdered Sydney pair is buried under hundreds of tonnes of earth in an opal mine at Lightning Ridge . A former British commando has been jailed for life for the double murder but the bodies of Caroline Horton 75 and her son Frank, 35, have never been found.
Along with some famous artist who exhibit there ( google John Murray ) it’s one of my favourite destinations.. Quirky yet very Australian. I did a makeover out there supported by the local tourism office … You can check out this adventure here on Ep187 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhVMMQSNdt4&t=230s
