IF ONLY THE WALLS COULD TALK. COURTHOUSES ARE OFTEN SUCH GRAND OLD LADIES.– I VISIT YASS , NSW

Updated: Feb 13, 2023

I couldn’t dig much dirt on this building at just over 140 years young , this impressive Colonial era building dominates the lower end of Yass's main street. Completed in 1880 to replace an existing courthouse it is still in use today .One of many old Yass buildings which are all worth a stroll through the main drag.

The area around Yass was occupied by Wiradjuri and Ngunnawal tribes. They knew the area as yarrh. Yass which means “running water.”

One of Australia's best-known poets, A.B. 'Banjo' Paterson arrived in the district in 1871, aged seven and went on to settle in the surrounding area and raise a family

In 1956, Yass became the first town in New South Wales to have a fluoridated water supply. WOW !!!

Other interesting facts ( or trivia) … In 2018, the town was featured in Queer Eye, a Netflix original series. The town was chosen as its name matches one of the cast's favourite sayings: yaass.[22]

Yass is also famous for a humorous billboard for the town's McDonald's restaurant, shows the McDonald's logo and the town's name (making it read "M YASS", similar to "my ass" ( google it, very funny)
