STORIES FROM A RECENT 3-month USA TRIP (shipped bike over from Australia)
How crazy is the traffic in Toronto.. I swear those Canadians are the kindest fun people, but get them on the freeways/city traffic and they are ruthless. I’m probably generalising here and all cities are the same. We tried to avoid cities as much as possible. Toronto was a family catch up time and we had a blast!
Before arriving in Toronto we had our bikes serviced at Indian Motorcycles Barrie.. This was about our half way point on the trip.. and I also needed new front brake pads !
A few notes of Interest.
Port Dover.. what happens here is whenever there is a Friday 13th in the year.. it becomes a motorbike mecca. 2023 saw only 1 Friday 13th, which we missed.. But some years can have 3 or 4. The town comes alive and I think that’s such a cool idea! Met a follower Steve there also who gave us the tip about the place.
Crossing the border back into USA and NY state was slow and punishing. Buffalo treated us to their world famous Buffalo wings at the renowned stop The Anchor Bar. The concept of cooking wings in peppery hot sauce was born in 1964 when co-owner Teressa Bellissimo cooked leftover wings in hot sauce as a late-night snack for her son and his friends. The rest is history! We even have Buffalo wings in Australia! Oh and Buffalo didn’t get its name because there were Buffalo roaming, it’s actually a French word pronounced ‘Buf-oo-lo’ .. which of course gets lost in translation and like all English folk we tend to change the name to suit our accents!
Catching up with friends, Jim and his family at their magnificent property in East Aurora which also provided some fascinating history. A beautiful village where the eccentric and very interesting character Elbert Hubbard created a sort of commune and his little tiny Book ‘Message to Garcia’ delivers a very progressive way of thinking from the late 1800’s. Definitely worth a google for more info about this town and the characters.
Crossing into Pennsylvania and this is probably the only time we had a bit of rain. More friends to visit, Dean and his family, at their beautiful Lakeside house in Du Bois. Around these areas are deer, Elk and plenty of wildlife along with the world’s Biggest Burger!!
Until next time… thanks for joining my adventure
